Busiest U.S Private Jet Airports Hit Record Numbers

PUBLISHED ON 06.20.2022

Since travel has ramped back up from the pandemic, airports have seen record numbers of passengers boarding flights. In the past year alone, air travel has jumped considerably for both commercial and private airlines. Today, many of the busiest US private jet airports are seeing record numbers as people remain eager to travel, especially with the opportunity to take advantage of the summer.

Busiest Airports in the US 2022

Over the past few years, private jet travel through some of the busiest airports has seen plenty of ups and downs. Of course, travel saw many barriers between 2020 and 2021 as many flights were grounded and destinations maintained heavy travel restrictions. Today, as more and more travelers embrace the benefits and conveniences of private jet travel, the amount of private air traffic passing through some of the country’s busiest airports has increased considerably.

Teterboro Airport (KTEB)

Teterboro Airport in New Jersey is consistently one of the busiest US private jet airports. Although Teterboro consistently sees heavy traffic, the daily average this year has been far beyond that of the past two years. On a day in June of 2021, Teterboro saw an average of 396 arrivals and departures. On the same day in June 2022, the airport saw 544, demonstrating a 127% increase in travel in just a year. Compared to 2020, this was a 217% increase.

Westchester County Airport (KHPN)

Westchester County Airport in White Plains, NY, often makes lists as one of the busiest airports in the US, and it is also seeing unprecedented flight traffic compared to the previous two years. Despite recovering well from travel restrictions and seeing plenty of growth in 2021, 2022 has brought in even more private jet travelers. In June this year, the airport showed a 113% increase in private jet departures and arrivals since last year. Compared to 2020, the airport has seen an 82% increase in flight activity.

Dallas Love Field (KDAL)

At Dallas Love Field, private jet traffic rose quickly in 2021 once travel restrictions started to lift. However, there was still room to grow. On one day in April this year, Dallas saw its highest total number of private flights in the past three years at 687 total departures and arrivals. Through April and May this year, weekly flight averages were consistently 10% higher than last year.

Denver Centennial Airport (KAPA)

At Denver’s Centennial Airport, the first half of 2022 has seen several spikes in the number of private air travelers passing through. At one point in March, the 7-day average of arrivals and departures was about 27% higher than it was in 2021, while the airport saw a peak of 659 private jet arrivals and departures. Private air travel through Centennial has continued to top the amount of 2021 and 2020 flights for the past several months.

Some of the other busiest airports in the US include:

  • Palm Beach (KPBI)
  • Van Nuys (KVNY)
  • Hartsfield Jackson International Airport (KATL)
  • Harry Reid International Airport (KLAS)
  • Opa-Locka Executive Airport (KOPF)
