Snow? Weather Delays? Stay Flexible with a Charter Flight

Since the championship game originated in 1967, this is the first year it will be played outside in a cold-weather city. We’re not sure who had the bright idea to hold the Super Bowl outdoors in the middle of winter in the Northeast, but forecasts now call for mostly sunny skies on Game Day in New Jersey with temperatures in the low 30s, possibly dropping into the upper 20s by late in the game. So you may experience a flurry or two early in the day and quite a wind chill, but fans can probably relax. It looks like the danger of  moving the game to a different day has passed.

If things do take a turn for the worse, and New Jersey and New York get pummeled by a mega-storm, you’ll be glad you booked private charter flights to Super Bowl XLVIII. Commercial airports are bound to be overloaded due to winter storms in the region, and we all know what that means – the TSA, long security lines, flight delays, cancellations, lost luggage…

On the other hand, private charter flights to Super Bowl XLVIII allow you to arrive at the airport just a few minutes before your flight, avoid the frustrating security drill, and you never have to collect your bags from the carousel; they are placed straight into your vehicle. In addition to the lowest prices in the industry, Charter Flight Group gives you access to a huge fleet of private aircraft for the most flexible scheduling. If you find you need to change plans at the last minute, we can help.

Getting to New Jersey

The airspace in the Tri-State area is notoriously crowded, even without a big game like this one, and is the world’s most-delayed airspace. To better manage traffic and ease congestion, the Port Authority is requiring private and charter planes flying to airports near the stadium to obtain reservations for all arrivals and departures, and a parking space.

The FAA plans to impose some flight restrictions on Super Bowl Sunday, one of which will last from 4 p.m. EST until one hour after the game ends. If you’re considering an exit from the game before the final whistle blows, or immediately afterward, keep in mind that you may not be able to get out of Teterboro until after midnight.

Private jet charter arrival and departure options in the area include:

  • Teterboro Airport (TEB) – This is the nearest executive airport to MetLife Stadium, just 3 miles north and about 15 minutes by car. It’s the most convenient entryway to the New York City area from both foreign and domestic destinations for private jet charters.
  • Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) – In Newark, about 13 miles from the MetLife Stadium, EWR is equipped for aircraft too large for Teterboro, such as the Boeing Business Jet, a luxurious 737 airliner with living and dining areas, shower and bath, and a master bedroom. Construction of a new $11 million terminal at EWR was accelerated to accommodate the expected increase in traffic.
  • Morristown Municipal Airport (MMU) – This small GA airport in New Jersey is 28 miles from MetLife Stadium. It’s the third busiest airport in New Jersey. Reservations will be required for private charter flights to Super Bowl XLVIII.
  • Essex County Airport (CDW) – This airport is located in Caldwell, New Jersey, and only 10 miles west of Teterboro Airport. Reservations are required for all arrivals from Jan. 29 to Feb. 3, and there will be a departure management system in place.
  • Westchester County Airport (HPN) – In White Plains, New York, HPN is 33 miles north of Manhattan and serves the New York Metropolitan area. All private charter flights to Super Bowl XLVIII that intend to access HPN from Jan. 30 to Feb. 3 will need a parking reservation. There are also special procedures for departures following the event.
  • Republic Airport (FRG) – This busy general aviation airport is located on Long Island, about 45 miles from MetLife Stadium, and provides convenient access to New York and New Jersey.

We suggest you book your private charter flights to Super Bowl XLVIII as soon as possible, especially if Teterboro (TEB) is your intended destination.  Also, consider flying outside the traditional Friday-to-Monday itinerary by departing on Thursday or Saturday and returning on Tuesday.

Getting to the Game

For the first time in the Super Bowl’s history, there will be no drop-off zone for taxis or limousines at MetLife Stadium. No private vehicles will be permitted to approach without prior arrangements. Tailgating won’t be allowed either.

Fans will have to get to the venue via public transit through a transit hub or Fan Express bus stop, or arrange to be picked up by a vehicle with a stadium parking pass. The best plan of attack is to get to Secaucus, NJ, where you can grab a shuttle train to the stadium. Just don’t forget your ticket; you won’t be allowed on the shuttle without a valid ticket.

Our expert consultants and charter planners are dedicated to making your private jet charter flights exceptionally safe and convenient. Call us at 888.634.7449  (phones answered 24/7).  CFG can help you with all of the necessary arrangements to make your Super Bowl XLVIII experience unforgettable.
