MetLife Stadium is a sports stadium situated in the Meadowlands at the MetLife Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey. It is the home field of the New York Jets and New York Giants of the National Football League. MetLife Stadium was purchased and owned by the two teams. The two teams cooperatively and jointly constructed the stadium using their private funds, and they completely operate it as equal and fair partners through a joint venture.
In 2010, when the stadium opened, it was initially called as New Meadowlands Stadium. However, in the year 2011, MetLife, which is an insurance company based in New York City, purchased and acquired the naming rights of the stadium. The MetLife Stadium is considered as the most expensive stadium ever constructed. It is also considered as the second largest stadium in the National Football League in terms of seating capacity.
Also, MetLife Stadium is the Only NFL stadium that is shared by two clubs.
The primary design of the MetLife Stadium is distinguished and acclaimed by an outer skin of aluminum louvers and interior lighting. It is capable of switching the colors. It depends on the team playing at home, blue for the Giants, and green for the Jets. This kind of technique was originated and copied at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany. The Allianz Arena was also shared by the two city major soccer clubs, the Bayern Munich and 1860 Munich. Good to know that MetLife Stadium can easily and conveniently be transformed from a Giants game to a Jets game or vice versa in a span of hours only
MetLife Stadium does not have a roof, unlike other National Football League venues. There was a proposal to include the project on roofing however the proposal was rejected due to a conflict over the budget and the funding.
The stadium has a seating capacity of 82,566 people. This includes 10,005 club seats and almost 218 luxury suites. With this number of seating capacity, the MetLife Stadium is considered and holds the title as the second largest National Football League stadium in terms of total seating.
Also, the MetLife Stadium has a total of four locker rooms. Each locker room was constructed for the New York Giants, New York Jets and the other two locker rooms are intended for the visiting teams.
