We all look forward to summer, that time in the Northern Hemisphere when snows are gone and the children are out of school. This is, of course, the best time to charter flights for travel. However, summer is rapidly coming to a close and school is looming. Many are thinking in terms of one last family getaway for August. So where are the best pre-back-to-school travel destinations for August? Glad you asked.
As soon as the heat of July abates, locations throughout the Northern Hemisphere begin to enjoy increased winds and more moderate temperatures. Even in the tropics, the days shift from hot to cold, depending on the shifts in the ocean currents. Thus, the Caribbean, Mexico, and Hawaii are all still hot destinations for August. August 16 is Statehood Day in Hawaii and there will be celebrations throughout the Islands, so if you like full out festivals, Hawaiian-style, book your charter jet flight today.
In addition, many families like to head to Orlando, Florida for Walt Disney World. This is a time when most working-class families have already been and are doing their shopping for back-to-school. This leaves smaller crowds, although in terms of Walt Disney World, this is somewhat misleading. There will still be crowds, but not quite like those found in June and July.
Another popular August destination for those in the know is the Grand Canyon. With the winds over the Rockies shifting, these often bring cooler temperatures to the Canyon in August, especially at night. If going, bring a light jacket just in case.
August is also the month for the annual pilgrimage to Memphis for Elvis lovers. You can look forward to the Elvis 5K Run, the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest which draws contestants from around the world, and head over to the Heartbreak Hotel for Elvis Bingo…corny, but loads of fun.
Don’t forget too that in Chicago’s Grant Park the famed Lollapalooza Music Festival will be in full gear in August. Just remember to book your hotels early for most of the 4 and 5 star hotels in the Windy City will book up early. If you need help with this, let us know.
Finally, not entirely on a musical note, but certainly filled with music is the Sturgis Bike Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota. This rally draws bikers nationwide and will provide plenty of incredible motorcycles and concert entertainment.
